Presbyterian Hospital and New Mexico Donor Services celebrate Donate Life Month

On Wednesday, Presbyterian Hospital partnered with New Mexico donor services to celebrate saving lives through organ, eye, and tissue donation.This celebration was a part of Donate Life Month and the event was hosted at Presbyterian flagpole to recognize New Mexico’s record setting organ donations. In 2024, 90 donor heroes saved 207 lives. As a result, New Mexico was voted 2nd kindest state in the nation – a key factor, the willingness for people to be organ donors. Another focus of the event was the story of a baby named Gabriel Levi Sawvel, whose mother carried him full term, knowing he would not survive outside of the womb. Due to this, one of the main goals for Gabriel was for him to become an organ donor. Gabriel helped start the birth tissue program at Presbyterian Hospital by donating the hospital’s very first placenta. He also donated his eyes and heart valve.
