Oaklawn Hospital offers free help with advanced directives this summer
Oaklawn Hospital is hosting a series of free Advanced Directive Workshops to help community members plan for future health care needs.
The workshops are open to the public and provide a space for individuals to learn about and complete advanced directive paperwork, according to an announcement.
Advanced directives are legal documents allowing individuals to outline their preferences for medical care if they become unable to communicate or make decisions for themselves. These directives ensure that a person’s wishes are known and respected by loved ones and health care providers during critical times.
At each workshop, Oaklawn case managers will provide necessary advanced directive forms, answer questions about the process and options, and assist attendees in completing the paperwork on-site or offer copies to take home.
The workshops are designed to be drop-in events, with no appointments or registration required.
“We want people to feel empowered to make decisions about their future health care in a way that reflects their values,” said Amy Brown, patient advocate at Oaklawn. “Having an advanced directive in place not only gives peace of mind to individuals, but it also relieves a tremendous burden from their loved ones during times of crisis.”
